Warning Lights Questions and Answers
Q: Why Is My Car's ABS Light On?
A: An Anti-Lock Braking System or ABS warning light on your dash indicates something in your car's ABS needs to be checked out by a qualified mechanic. Your ABS is one of your most important safety systems. Do not ignore this warning light. Common issues are:
- Malfunctioning ABS module
- Low levels in the brake fluid reservoir
- Broken speed sensor
- The ABS system is not receiving power
Q: Why does my car keep saying the coolant level is low?
A: If a low coolant warning light is on do not continue to drive and go directly to the auto repair shop. It is simple and often inexpensive to fix at Automotive Specialists Inc.. Waiting to get the problem resolved can result in high-cost engine repairs. If the low coolant warning light continues to flash on, then there is a leak in the car's cooling system. Coolant fluid can leak in several ways. First, external leaks from radiator hoses, second, connections between hoses, or lastly, from the radiator itself. Your car's radiator cap may leak due to a faulty seal on the cap which can be easily resolved by a specialist at our shop in El Dorado.
Q: How do I fix a persistent traction control warning light?
A: Normally, when the traction control light comes on while driving it indicates the car's traction control lost grip or traction going around a sharp curve or while driving on wet pavement. However, sometimes the traction control warning light will come on and stay on.
The best way to determine whether it was just a fluke or a real issue is to shut your vehicle off and turn it back on. If the light is off, then it was likely a temporary malfunction. If the light does not reset, come by Automotive Specialists Inc. in El Dorado and let us fix it.
Q: What are the main problems that cause a throttle control warning light to come on?
A: The five main issues are:
- Irregular or dangerous unintended acceleration
- Intermittent loss of throttle control
- Sudden drop in fuel economy
- Hesitation or stumbling when accelerating.
- Engine stuck unable to accelerate beyond a fast idle.
Q: Why is my throttle control warning light on?
A: The connection between the gas pedal and acceleration is controlled by your car's throttle. The amount of acceleration or throttle control is governed by a sophisticated computer system. Any disruption of the electrical signals will affect your vehicle's acceleration and cause the throttle control warning light to come on. If your throttle control light comes on go directly to Automotive Specialists Inc. in El Dorado.
Q: Can I drive with the throttle control light on?
A: No, unwanted acceleration may occur and cause an accident. Go straight to the repair shop. There can be many different causes for the throttle control warning light, many are simple fixes.

My first visit due to my previous tech retiring and moving out of state. Auto Specialists inspected and got both our vehicles ready for winter in a VERY efficient and organized manner. These people are well organized, knowledgeable, and honest. Didn't try to pad the bill with unnecessary repairs or marketing practices. In fact, they found ways to save me costs while still doing top-notch work. I'm going to them from now on for all our vehicle maintenance and needs. I'm confident I'll have more high-rating reviews to share in the future.

I was driving from Kansas City to OKC, and had just had my brake pads replaced and rotors turned the day before. I pulled off for lunch and heard a terrible noise, apparently my caliper came loose. Luckily this place was less than a mile, so I limped it in. They were super friendly and helpful, even though they were short handed due to COVID. I was in and out in about 30 min even though they had other jobs. A++++
Above and beyond friendly service.
While my family was on a quick day trip out of town, our van broke down. We were able to locate the shop through AAA services. Mitch and his team were incredibly helpful and courteous. On what could have been a day being stranded away from home, we were in and out of there in just a couple hours. Our bill was even a pleasant surprise too! My family is very grateful and we appreciate all the help from Automotive Specialists of El Dorado. Our only regret is that we do not live closer to come back for all our vehicle maintenance.
Thanks again Mitch!
My daughter just moved in to her apartment at Butler Community College and she suddenly had driving issues with her SUV. She just happened to pull in to the parking lot on a Sunday early evening and even though they were closed, Mitch was there and helped her figure out the problem. He got it in for repair on Monday for a very reasonable price. I can't thank him enough for helping her out. I feel more confident now that if there are future issues while she is at school, he will be there to help!
